About Me

Real Mom Kitchen is an amazing food blog authored by Laura Powell.  It began in April of 2008, shortly after her husband lost his job, Laura decided to start a food blog to channel her creative energy and give her a distraction from the stresses in her life.  Little did she know that this hobby would turn into a way to help contribute to the family finances.

Realmomkitchen.com is where Laura is able to share her passion for cooking and food that was fostered by her mother from the time she was a young girl.  She shares her experiences in the kitchen, delicious family friendly recipes that any busy mom or dad can make, and photographs of each recipe that will make you want to come back for more. Real Mom Kitchen focuses on recipes that have regular ingredients most people keep stocked in their pantry. The site includes recipes from desserts to main dishes that are sure to please.

Laura is a busy mom herself with her 3 children ages 10, 14, and 17.  Not only is it hard to be a mom, but Laura has two children who have been diagnosed with learning disabilities.  Her 12 year old son has ADHD and her 10 year old daughter has autism, ADHD, along with a genetic disorder called Turner Syndrome.  Laura is also in the process of doing another blog that shows the daily life of Real Mom Kitchen.  She will share the day to day experiences of dealing with a daughter with multiple medical issues.

Real Mom Kitchen is a food blog site that currently receives over 1 million page loads a month. In 2008, RMK had 68,026 page loads and grew to over 1.4 million page loads in 2009.  RMK is now growing at a phenomenal rate and now receives over one million page views a month. You will find pictures from RMK shared on sites such as tastespotting.com, foodgawker.com, and of course pinterest.com.  Laura’s site is also featured on sites such as Hostess with the Mostess, Refrigerator Soup, and the Huffington Post.

She has been featured in Taste of Home, The Salt Lake Tribune, Deseret News, and has appeared on KUTV News, KSL News, Studio 5, Good Things Utah, to name a few. She was named the Ultimate Swanson Football Champion 2011 for a recipe she developed for the contest.  Laura has been a correspondence for Country Crock and is currently a member of Bush’s Team Bean. She has done recipe development for brands such as Flatout, Duncan Hines, Eggo, and Old El Paso.

In August of 2011, Laura published her first cookbook “Real Mom Kitchen” and released the second edition of the book in Fall 2013. In Fall 2013, she also released a cookbooklet titled Warm Up Your Winter: holiday hot chocolate and cider recipes. Both books can be found in most bookstores and on Amazon.com. She will also release another cookbooklet containing holiday recipes in Fall 2014.
