Last week, I was whisked away to Napa for a few days thanks to Bush’s Beans and their Flavors from Around the World Event. I was so excited for the opportunity and I have never been to Napa. I also got to go to the Culinary Institute at Greystone and cook with some wonderful chefs including Jeffrey Saad, Daisy Martinez, Connie Gutterson, and Michael Schulson. I will share more about the Chefs and the Culinary Institute in another post. Today, I am going to share with you the wonderful place we got to stay at along with the two restaurants we devoured delicious food at.
The place I got to stay at for my visit was Meadowood. I rode from the airport to Meadowood with Katie from Good Life Eats. So fun to get to know here better. It is interesting to see the different things you can find in common with people and I found that with Katie.
When we arrived, we were dropped off at the reception area. From there, they took us each by car to our own little cottage. The property is so big they have cars you can call to drive you around there. It was beautiful. Fall in Napa is a magnificent time of year. Shortly after I was dropped off to my little cottage, I got a call from my good bloggy friend Tina from Mommy’s Kitchen. She wanted to see if I had arrived yet. Soon we discovered that she was in one of the cottages adjoining mine. I loved how Tina described the cottages. With her cute Texas accent she said they were like the bungalows in the movie Dirty Dancing.
We had some time to rest at Meadowood and then the real fun began. We got to go eat dinner at the Farmstead Restaurant. The restaurant is located in what use to be a barn and includes a farm-to-table menu. They served us our meal family style. This way we each got to try several different things from their menu. Our sampling included Heirloom Tomato Salad, Beets with Feta, Petrale Sole with Lemon Butter, and Brick Cooked Chicken. Both the chicken and sole were delicious, but my favorite was the sole. We also got a sampling of desserts. The best was the apple skillet cake. There was wine of course. I mean in Napa is the place to have wine. I, however, am not a drinking girl, so I can’t tell you anything about the wine, but I can tell you plenty about the food.
The next day was spent at the Culinary Institute. More details will come about my day there, but our evening was spent at their beautiful restaurant. We ate a sampling of appetizers. For the meal, I chose the steak with watercress and Gorgonzola cheese, it was divine! I finished off the heavenly meal with a molten lava cake. I was enjoying my meal so much that I forgot to take pictures of the food! There will be more to come about my Napa adventure so stay tuned!
