German Apple Pancakes

My family absolutely loves German pancakes, otherwise known as hootenannies at our house. So when I saw Sharlene Hawkes on KSL’s Studio 5 sharing a recipe for German Apple Pancakes, I had to give them a try. It does require a little more effort than regular German Pancakes with the addition of apples, but is well worth it. I thought it was a nice change from the regular German pancakes and would be great to serve to guests. This one is now in my tried and true file.

German Apple Pancakes

Ingredients
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 3 medium apples – cored, peeled, and thinly sliced
  • 8 eggs
  • 1 ½ cups flour
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ½ cup brown sugar

Instructions
  1. Turn oven on to 400 degrees. Place butter in 9×13 pan and place in oven until melted.
  2. Remove pan from oven and place apples in warm melted butter, spread them out and sprinkle cinnamon over them. Place back in the oven.
  3. Place eggs, flour, milk and salt in blender and blend for about 45 seconds until smooth.
  4. Remove pan from oven and pour batter over apples. Sprinkle brown sugar over the entire top, and place in oven for about 20-25 minutes until puffed and golden brown. Cut into squares and serve. Serves 8-12.

Could you tell me if it is supposed to be 1/2 CUP brown sugar or 1/2 TBSP of brown sugar or what? It wasn’t clear either here or in the original recipe…
