This is a quick and simple recipe that I got from Meal Planning Mommies. It’s also inexpensive. Sarah Anne is the the one who posted this recipe and she put the cost as $2. When I was younger, my mom would purchase chipped beef in a boil a bag meal. I loved it then and when I saw this I had to make it for nostalgic reasons. Don’t let this gravy sit for too long after it’s done or it will thicken even more, but if this happens just add some more milk to thin it out. I need to give this a try on biscuits next time.
Chipped Beef Gravy
2 packages of Budding Beef
2 cups milk
2 cans buttermilk biscuits or toast!(I did toast, 1 1/2 slices per person)
4 Tb. butter
1/4 cup flour
1/4 t pepper
1/4 t nutmeg (I didn’t add this)
dash of cayenne
Melt 4 Tb. butter over medium heat in a large skillet. Preheat your oven if you are making biscuits. Tear the beef into pieces (I cut mine up) and cook in the butter until the edges curl up. Once your meat is done, add 1/4 cup flour, 1/4 t. pepper, 1/4 t. nutmeg and a dash of cayenne pepper. Stir and cook until bubbly. While this is heating, either put your biscuits in to bake or make toast to serve the gravy on. Add 2 cups milk, stir constantly until boiling. Cook 1 min. or until to your desired thickness. Serve over biscuits or toast. Serves 4-5.
