Fresh Strawberry Syrup

Strawberries happen to be the favorite way to top waffles at our house. A lot of the time, we use fresh strawberry slices with maple syrup.

Well, recently I decided to try a recipe for strawberry syrup. This is a cooked syrup that uses fresh strawberries. I have shared a strawberry sauce recipe before but this recipeĀ is different. It is cooked longer and is definitely a syrup consistency unlike the strawberry sauce.

Fresh Strawberry Syrup

Ingredients
  • 3 cups fresh strawberries, diced
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 Tbsp lemon juice
  • ¼ tsp vanilla
Instructions
  1. Combine all of the ingredients together in a sauce pan. Cook over a low heat bringing to a simmer.
  2. Simmer until strawberries are soft and mixture has thickened to you desired consistency up to 15 minutes.
  3. Syrup will thicken more upon standing. If it ends up too thick, just mix in a little water to reach desired consistency. Makes 2½ cups of syrup.

  • This looks scrumptious. We usually have a big breakfast on Sundays and will have to add this one to the list.
