Nothing says summer quite like a tall glass of ice-cold classic lemonade, and here at RMK, we’re kicking off the season with something special—Lemonade Week! All week long, we’re celebrating this classic drink with fun recipes, refreshing twists, and a few personal favorites. And speaking of favorites, my go-to lemonade has always been the one from Chick-fil-A—it’s the perfect balance of sweet and tart, and I just can’t get enough.

Recently, my BBFF (Best Blogging Friend Forever) Melissa from Stockpiling Moms had the amazing opportunity to visit Chick-fil-A’s corporate headquarters, where she learned the secrets behind their famous lemonade – simple ingredients. When she told me she had the actual recipe, I knew I had to try it for myself—and what better way to kick off Lemonade Week than with a copycat version of my favorite drink?

Personally, I usually order the diet lemonade, which Chick-fil-A sweetens with Splenda sweetener, but their original version made with pure cane sugar is just as delicious. Whether you go classic or sugar-free, this lemonade is a summer must-sip. Huge thanks to Melissa for sharing the recipe—it’s the perfect way to bring a little Chick-fil-A sunshine into your own kitchen!

  • SUNKIST LEMONS (THAT IS WHAT CHICK-FIL-A USES)
  • GRANULATED SUGAR (OR SPLENDA FOR THE DIET VERSION)
  • WATER

Juice the Lemons – Start by juicing enough fresh lemons to yield 1½ cups of lemon juice. This usually takes about 7–8 large lemons, depending on their size and juiciness. For best results, use a citrus press or juicer and strain out any seeds or excess pulp.

Dissolve the Sugar – Pour the lemon juice into a large pitcher and add granulated sugar. Whisk until the sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture looks smooth and glossy.

Add the Water – Pour in cold filtered water and whisk again until everything is well combined. Taste and adjust the sweetness if needed.

Chill & Serve – Chill the lemonade in the fridge until it’s nice and cold—at least 30 minutes. Serve over ice and garnish with lemon slices if desired. Then enjoy a sip of tangy happiness!

Can I use bottled lemon juice instead of fresh lemons?
Freshly squeezed lemon juice is key to capturing that signature Chick-fil-A flavor. Bottled juice can taste flat or metallic due to preservatives, but if you’re in a pinch, choose a high-quality brand and strain it well.

Can I make a sugar-free or diet version?
Yes! Chick-fil-A uses Splenda for their diet lemonade. You can substitute with monk fruit, stevia, or honey—just adjust the amount based on sweetness level.

How long does homemade lemonade last in the refrigerator?
It stays fresh for 3–4 days in a sealed pitcher. Stir before serving, as natural ingredients may settle.

Why does my lemonade taste bitter?
You may have squeezed too hard and released oils from the lemon pith. To avoid this, juice gently and strain the juice to remove pulp and seeds.

Can I add other flavors or fruits?
Yes! Try adding strawberries, mint, or a splash of lime juice for a fun twist. You can even make a sparkling version with fizzy water.

What’s the best water to use?
Use filtered or bottled water for the cleanest taste. Tap water can affect the flavor, especially if it’s heavily chlorinated.

  1. So excited to try this! With both of my pregnancies I have craved that stuff (usually on Sunday’s when they’re closed).

This recipe is very good. Much better than the previous one that I tried. Everyone’s taste is different, but the nice thing is that you can tweak it until you have what you like.

  3. I used large lemons from Costco, comes in 5 lb bag. Using an efficient electric juicer to collect every drop, 4 1/2 lemons = 1.5 cups of juice. Produced enough juice from 5 lb. bag of lemons for three batches of lemonade.

I read comment about 1c of Splenda being too much. I tried 1/2 c, 3/4 c, then 1 c of Splenda. Without a doubt a full cup tasted most like CFA’s. Using large CFA Styrofoam cup, homemade recipe makes 2.5 servings and costs about $1 each vs. $2.24 (incl. tax) at local CFA.

  4. We love lemonade and I’m anxious to try your proportions. When making sweetened drinks, I like to make a simple syrup with 1 cup of the water and 1 cup of sugar and chill it before adding to the rest of the ingredients. I also make lemonade “ice cubes” so the cubes don’t melt and dilute the lemonade.

  5. I buy the gallons from chick fil a all the time. This recipe is closest I’ve been able to find. For all those saying chick fil a has pasteurized lemonade that is not true. If you buy a gallon of lemonade is says in big letters “not pasteurized”.

  6. I took a tour at Chick Fil A and saw how they made the lemonade. It Is NOT pasteurized lemonade. Idk where you get your info from but it’s incorrect.

  7. The lemons will juice better if they are room temperature. Roll them on the counter before you cut them and it will be easier to get the juice out.

    1. I work at Chick-fil-A and we use much less splenda than sugar volume-wise. Using an entire cup of splenda might make it way too sweet.

  9. A recipe is just the ingredients used to make a dish. That’s great that your mom used the same one. For others who are curious about the measurements or particulars of something they would like to make, this post is very helpful. Don’t be so condescending.

  10. how in the world is this a chick-fil-a recipe??? I grew up drinking home made lemonade and this recipe is how my mother made it a long time ago..( I’m 73 ) everybody knew how to make this.. Just shows you how much people today depend on someone else making the food they eat and drink…..

  13. The water should be ice cold, we actually put ice in it and keep it in the fridge till time to poor into the lemon juice sugar mix.

  14. Yep, Melissa is right. Chick Fil A’s lemonade is fresh squeezed, every day. I used to work there and made it myself many times =)

    1. Chick-fil-A does NOT use pasteurized lemonade. Please ask for a back stage tour of your local Chick-fil-A or for them to demonstrate their lemonade to you. They have a team member in the kitchen cutting lemons in half, juicing them and following the steps on this site. I have witnessed it myself. Their lemonade is the best ever and it is because it is not pasteurized.

  15. Yum! I really like lemonade. I’ve never had it from that restaurant but looking forward to trying out the recipe!
